Synopsis

This talk will give an overview of how the SpyMax malware was utilized in the context of the Syrian civil war to shape its outcome. SpyMax will be examined from a technical standpoint alongside the infrastructure surrounding it, its development history, and the way in which it played a role in the final moments of the conflict. The talk will equip cybersecurity practitioners in both technical and non-technical roles with the foundation to consider how cyber operations are increasingly becoming force multipliers and equalizers in global conflicts, and uncover other types of malware in similar contexts.

Speaker

David Feldman is an Intelligence Analyst at CrowdStrike with a focus on adversary tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs). He holds a bachelor's degree from Rutgers University in Computer Science and previously served as the President of the university's cybersecurity club. David has previous experience interning at the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness (NJOHSP), the U.S. Coast Guard, and the Cyber Security Forum Initiative (CSFI). David's other interests encompass malware analysis, cyber policy, and blockchain forensics.
